Açıkalan Sanat Kolektifi (ASK)’nin düzenlediği “Zemberek” başlıklı sergi ve atölyeler dizisi, 8-22 Eylül tarihleri arasında Kadıköy Nâzım Hikmet Kültür Merkezi’nde.

Zemberek, sistemin diğer parçalarını harekete geçiren temel itkidir. Tıpkı kişinin içinde yaşadığımız sistemin devamını sağlayışı, onu yeniden üretmesi, ama bozulma başladığında sistemi yeniden düzenleyerek, değiştirmesi gibi.

Buradan hareketle "Zemberek" adını alan sergide; iktidar mekanizmasının yarattığı kimlik tanımları, kültürel şiddet ve görsel hafıza gibi kavramlar, bireylerin tanıklıkları üzerinden sorunsallaştırılıyor.

Kentin kaotik yapısı içinde; toplumu, kamusal alanı ve sanatı farklı tanımlamalarla okuyan Zemberek Sergisi, toplumsal hareketlerin, iktidar yapısının “eleştirilemez” gücüne karşı ürettiği söylem ve eylemlere yeni bir bakış açısı sunuyor.

Yakın geçmişte tanık olduğumuz siyasal, politik ve kültürel süreçlere eleştiriler üretilen Zemberek Sergisi’nde; Arzu Yayıntaş, Beksultan Oğuz, Betül Akzambaklar, Burhan Yılmaz, Cüneyt Çelik, Evrim Kavcar, Hangar Sanat Oluşumu (Atilla İlkyaz, Cebrail Ötgün, Cezmi Orhan), Hazal Aksoy, İnsel İnal, Mahal, Nazım Serhat Fırat, Neriman Polat, Özge Ünlütürk, Seçkin Tercan, Seher Uysal, Selin Kocagöncü, Tuğçe Kızılağıl, Yusuf Murat Şen’in çalışmaları yer alıyor.

Sergi süresince; İşlevdışı Atölye, Geri Dönüşüm Atölyeleri (Solucan Kompostu Atölyesi ve Gazeteden Taş Yapımı Atölyesi), Pankartların Dili Atölyesi ve Sanatsal Pratikte Etik Atölyesi gerçekleşiyor.

A series of workshops and an exhibition under the headline “Zemberek” (The Mainspring) , curated by Acikalan Art Collective, is going to take place between September, 8th – 22th at Kadıköy Nazım Hikmet Kültür Merkezi.

The Mainspring is known to be the instrument that drives the other pieces of the system. Just as in the case of the human beings that build and recreate the environment they live in, and rearranging, redesigning it when inconsistencies occur.

The exhibition titled Zemberek (The Mainspring), questions the issues of identity, cultural violence, visual memory through individual testimonies of the artists. The exhibition “Mainspring” examines the society, public sphere and art within the borders of chaotic urban structure, proposing a new angle when reviewing social movements, and the actions of the ruling forces that are known to be “beyond criticism”

The artists who meant to criticise the recent social political and cultural agenda through their works are; Arzu Yayıntaş, Beksultan Oğuz, Betül Akzambaklar, Burhan Yılmaz, Cüneyt Çelik, Evrim Kavcar, Hangar Sanat Oluşumu (Atilla İlkyaz, Cebrail Ötgün, Cezmi Orhan), Hazal Aksoy, İnsel İnal, Mahal, Nazım Serhat Fırat, Neriman Polat, Özge Ünlütürk, Seçkin Tercan, Seher Uysal, Selin Kocagöncü, Tuğçe Kızılağıl, Yusuf Murat Şen.
Along with the event “Mainspring”, a series of accompanying workshops titled as Dysfunctional Workshop, Recycling Workshop (Worm Composting and Stone Making with Newspapers), the Language of Placards and Ethics in Artistic Practice are also organized.

Kamusal Konulu Bienal Karşı Sanatçılardan İmza

KAMUOYUNA DUYURUDUR.

Aşağıda ismi olan hepimiz; sanatçılar, sanat hakkında düşünenler ve üretenler, İstanbul Kültür Sanat Vakfı'nın ve 13. İstanbul Bienali küratöryel ekibinin, 10 Mayıs Cuma günü yapılan “Kamusal Sermaye” isimli etkinlikte, Kamusal Direniş Platformu üyeleri tarafından gerçekleştirilen protestoya verdiği tepkiyi kınıyoruz.

Eylem, zorla dönüştürülen semt isimlerinin yazılı olduğu tişörtleri giyen protestocuların, sessizce ortaya çıkıp, ellerindeki şirket logolu örtüleri üzerlerine örterek yere yatmalarıyla gerçekleşti ve İKSV ekibinin yere yatan her protestocuyu 'karga tulumba' yerden kaldırıp, dışarı atmasıyla son buldu. 

Kamusal olandan bahsederken, eleştirel ve farklı seslere karşı bu tahammülsüzlüğü, protestoculara uygulanan şiddeti ve etkinliğin sonunda bir platform üyesinin etkinlik sırasında çektiği video kayıt nedeniyle alıkonulmak istenmesi, ardından polis çağrılarak karakola götürülmesi ve hakkında şikayetçi olunmasını kabul edilemez bir tutum olarak görüyoruz.

Kentsel dönüşüme ve kamusala odaklandığını iddia eden 13. İstanbul Bienali’nin, kamunun farklı seslerine karşı koyduğu otoriter, yargılayıcı ve iletişime kapalı bu tavrı çelişkilidir. 

Acilen şimdiye kadar uygulanan iktidar refleksli bu tutumu değiştirmeye ve öngörülen süreci tekrar düşünmeye davet ediyoruz.

PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT

We the undersigned, who are all working in the field of art, condemn the reaction of The Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (IKSV) and 13th Istanbul Biennial curatorial team, to the protest that was performed by Public/Common Resistance Platform members at the “Public Capital” event on May 10th 2013. 

The protest was organized and performed by a group of activists wearing 

T-shirts printed with the names of forcibly gentrifying neighborhoods in Istanbul; at short intervals, one would stand up from the crowd and drape him/ herself on the floor in the middle of the room using a piece of cloth printed with the logos of related companies. The performance was finished by IKSV team lifting the protesters up roughly and carrying them off from the venue. 

Whilst pretending to have a “public” discourse , this applied intolerance towards critical and different voices, the violence towards protesters, and the attempt of detaining a platform member because he was video recording the activity, and calling the police and taking him to police station and making charges against him cannot be an acceptable attitude

The authoritative, judgmental and uncommunicative attitude of the 13th Istanbul Biennial towards different voices of the public is highly in contradiction with its claims to “activate social engagement and public fora to generate a possibility for rethinking the concept of “publicness”.*

We would kindly and urgently invite you to change this authoritarian reflex and re- think the proposed process (structure) of 13th Istanbul Biennial.

İSTANBUL’U ve YAŞAMI SAVUNMAYA GEZİ PARKI’NA!

Sermayenin İstanbul’u, emeğin İstanbul’una; piyasanın İstanbul’u, İstanbul’un mahallelerine, ormanlarına, meydanlarına, tarihine, belleğine, okullarına, hastanelerine ve yaşamı savunan İstanbullulara azgınca saldırıyor. Uzun yıllardır panellerde, forumlarda, mitinglerde, gazete-dergi yazılarında uzun uzun tartıştığımız büyük kentsel saldırının parçaları günlerdir kar ve iktidar hırsıyla gözü dönen AKP hükümeti tarafından büyük bir karabasan gibi kentin üzerine salınıyor.

Kente yönelik saldırıya doyamayan rantçılar, İstanbul’un elde kalan son doğal varlıklarının olduğu Kuzey ormanlarına; İstanbul’u emeğin başkenti kılan Taksim Meydanı’na ve Gezi Parkı’na; emekçi Okmeydanı mahallesinin yoksul sokaklarına yönelik saldırıları tek bir güne sığdırdılar. Sermayenin ve AKP’nin İstanbul fethi hızlanırken bugün artık herkes için konuşma değil, ayağa kalkma ve direnme günüdür. İstanbul’u, mahallelerimizi, meydanlarımızı ve hayatımızı paraya ve iktidara tapanlara karşı savunmak için sokakta, direniş alanlarında birleşme günüdür.

İstanbul’u tarihi ve belleğiyle yeniden inşa etmeye çalışan; sermayenin fethi için tarihi ayaklar altına alan; doğayı ve yaşamı katlederken tarihin katliamcı yönünden ve devlet teröründen medet uman AKP iktidarı, halkın üzerine öldürücü bir silah olan gaz bombalarıyla yapılan saldırıları doğallaştırmaya çalışmaktadır. AKP faşizminin bu saldırılarının amacı sadece İstanbul’u ve Taksim Meydanı’nı yeniden inşa etmek değildir. AKP hükümeti meydanları savunan İstanbullulara saldırarak sermayenin mutlak çıkarlarına savunan bir itaat rejimi inşa etmeye çalışmaktadır.

AKP hükümetinin gözü dönmüş saldırılarına karşı Gezi Parkı’nda süren direniş bu yüzden sadece Gezi Parkı’nın değil bütün İstanbul’un direnişidir. Gezi Parkı’ndaki direnişi yoksul mahalleleri, doğal varlıkları, meydanları, okulları ve hastaneleriyle emeğin İstanbul’unun, sermayenin İstanbul’una karşı ortak sesinin yükseldiği bir direniş alanı haline getirmek elimizdedir.

Bizler aşağıda imzası olan mücadele platformları ve örgütlenmeleri olarak tüm İstanbul halkını, Gezi Parkı direnişine İstanbul halkının ortak direnişi olarak sahip çıkmak için, Gezi Parkı direnişini hiçbir zaman yalnız bırakmamaya ve 31 Mayıs Cuma akşamı saat 19.00’da tüm gücümüzle büyük bir dayanışma etkinliği örgütlemeye çağırıyoruz.

Şimdi korkunun, devlet terörünün ve fetihçi zihniyetin üstüne umutla ve isyanla yürüme zamanı! Şimdi İstanbul için, mahallelerimiz için ve yaşamımız için ayağa kalkma zamanı!

TO GEZİ PARK,TO DEFEND ISTANBUL & LIFE!

The capital groups’ Istanbul, attacks the labour’s Istanbul, the market’s Istanbul attacks wildly Istanbul’s neighborhoods, forests, squares, history, memory, schools, hospitals and Istanbulites who defend life by all costs. For a long while, we have been arguing in panels, forums, demonstrations, newspaper – magazine columns; signs of a massive urban attack being unleashed by AKP government’s endless desire of power and profit.

The rant fanatics with their insatiable appetite, managed to fit their assaults on Istanbul’s last natural resources Northern forests; Taksim Square and Gezi Park that made Istanbul the capital of labour; and the poorly streets of Okmeydanı district which is full of workers, in just one day. Today while the capital groups and AKP’s conquest of the city continues, it is time for everyone to not just talk; but rise and stand. It is the day to defend Istanbul, our neighborhoods, squares and lives against the worshippers of power and money, it’s the day to unite in streets and areas of resistance.

AKP government with its efforts to rebuild Istanbul , its history and memory,overstepping the history for capital groups’ conquests, while assaulting the life and nature hoping help from history’s mass murdering, terrorizing side; tries to legitimize its brutal attacks on people with lethal tear gas. The fascist assaults of AKP is not just about rebuilding Istanbul and Taksim Square. AKP government while attacking the defenders of these squares in Istanbul, aims to build an obedience regime that defends the interests of capital groups.

The resistance that takes place in Gezi Park against the AKP governments ravenous attacks therefore is not just about Gezi Park but a resistance for the whole Istanbul. It is in our hands to make Gezi Park, a resistance area of mutual voices, of labour, of poor neighborhoods, natural sources, squares, schools and hospitals against the capital groups’ Istanbul.

We, whose names are written below, as platforms and organizations, call Istanbulites to make Gezi Park an area of mutual resistance of the people of Istanbul, and never leave the Gezi Park resistance alone by itself, and ask to act with solidarity on 31st of May, Friday at 19.00 with all our power and spirit.

Now it’s time to walk over fear, state terror and conquering mentality with hope and riot! 

Now it’s time to uprise for Istanbul, our neighborhoods and lives!

Reyhanlı'daki patlama ile ilgili kamuoyuna duyuru.

Geçen hafta Reyhanlı’da patlayan bomba hükümete göre 51, hastanelerden alınan bilgilere göre ise 100’ün üzerinde vatandaşın hayatına mal oldu.

Patlamanın hemen ardından AKP ve destekçisi medya olayı Esad’a bağlamak için yoğun bir çabaya girişti. Patlama öncesi hiçbir Suriye vatandaşı ortada görünmezken ve ilçedeki tüm mobese kameraları arıza yaparken, patlamanın hemen ardından deliller dozerlerle kaldırıldı, yayın yasağı getirildi. Yüzlerce kişinin ölümüne neden olan bu kanlı hesaplaşmayı protesto eden ve Davutoğlu’nu istifaya çağıran gruplara ise vahşice saldırıldı, çok sayıda kişi yaralandı.

Reyhanlı’da yaşananların sorumlusu Suriye üzerinden yürüttüğü kanlı politikalarla AKP hükümetidir.

Açıkalan Sanat Kolektifi (ASK) olarak bu hain saldırıyı şiddetle kınıyor, herkesi Reyhanlı’nın hesabını sormaya çağırıyoruz.

Public Anouncement about the explosion in Reyhanlı. 

Last week, the bomb that gone off in Reyhanlı, according to the government sources took 51, and according to the information taken from the hospitals took more than 100 lives.

After the explosion the AKP and the media groups supporting the government, attempted to relate the incident to Esad. While no Syrian citizen were around the district and all the CCTV cameras incidentally failed to record, the bulldozers removed the necessary evidence and a ban on media broadcasting followed. The people who protested the blasts, and demanded Davutoğlu’s resignation were attacked brutally, most of them were injured severely.

The responsibility of these blasts that happened in Reyhanlı belongs to the AKP government and its policy feasting on blood.

Açıkalan Art Collective (ASK) condemns these brutal attacks and invites everyone to demand an explanation from the government about Reyhanlı.

Written below is the declaration of the protest against IKSV

The Public Resistance Platform (Kent Hareketleri, Açıkalan Art Collective, Kamusal Sanat Laboratuvarı, Homur Mizah ve Karikatür Grubu, Student Collectives, ArtHack, Gündoğusu Sanat ve Düşün Topluluğu, Red Photography, Independent Artists, Independent University Students)  stands against the  biennial’s concept of Public Alchemy sponsored by the holdings who help the urban transformation projects happen, such as Eczacıbaşı and Koç. The protesters wore t-shirts that has the names of the districts under the threat of urban transformation written on each shirt, and lay on the floor in front of the speakers. The protesters lay blankets on themselves branded with the sponsors’ logoes, and lay quietly on the floor, the performance ended with each of the protesters’ being carried out the rooms by the hotel security. After the panel, the curator threatened the platform members Niyazi Selçuk and Mihriban Demircan and asked the artist Niyazi Selçuk to erase the recordings of the performance. When Selçuk objected each party made a complaint against the other. Written below is the text explaining the reason behind this protest.

Don’t Play Their Game, Don’t Be a Mere Instrument in This Trickery!

The Biennial’s Support to Istanbul’s Death Penalty!

In recent years, Istanbul has become a construction yard. Especially in the immigrant-receiving neighbourhoods, the destructions trigger a rebellion; because they’re  known to be legal occupations under the name of gentrification projects. The deconstruction project, the “urban transformation”, reconstructs the cities and its outskirts as an income area for the benefits of certain capital groups, by removing the poor from city centers and usurping the rights of sheltering.

Under the management of AKP Goverment, there is an ideologic attack that mainly targets the social trasformation; besides it also provides income areas to capital groups by looting natural sources, annihilating the culture and turning the city names to brands. The gated communities and residences which are built upon the former quarters of the exiled poor show us this transformation is a gentrification project. On the other hand, while natural areas, historic and cultural buildings are usurped; malls, lux hotels, plazas are being constructed instead. 

Considering that the deconstructions will cause the asbestos to resurface, we’ll soon face health problems reaching to terrifying ratios.The rubbles of the demolished buildings will be used to fill the coasts and make way to open new income areas.

Thanks to the olimpics, planning to be held in Istanbul in 2020, the urban texture will be demolished, forestlands will be available for housing, many neighbourhoods will be sacrificed to tourism via urban transformation process. After that an aconomic crisis will follow. The cities that hosted  the olympic games,  Barcelona, Beijing, Seul, Athens  are  the living proofs of these problems.

Outlined here by this text, the case is ironic: the 13th Istanbul Biennial, which is organized by an Eczacıbaşı establishment -İKSV- and sponsored by Koç Holding, has the  concept of “Public Alchemy”. It is very much clear that there is no other function of Istanbul Biennial (organized by these two groups which are also financiers of urban transformation) other than occupying the public areas and legalizing the attacks of the goverment and capital groups. In this sense, when an art event such as Biennial is financed by such capital groups, they  use the the opportunity to  legitimize their actions.

For the benefit of this operation, which was started by AKP to open new income areas and interfere with the social life, The Ministry of Environment and Urbanization made a statement: “ Whoever is against the urban transformation, is a traitor”. We, who are named as traitors , choose to stand against all kinds of pressures, molestations and unlawful attempts that the government provides for us.

             Kentsel dönüşüm yağmacıları arasında bulunan Eczacıbaşı ve Koç gibi holdinglerin, bienali “Kamusal Simya” konseptiyle düzenlemelerine karşı çıkan Kamusal Direniş Platformu (Kent Hareketleri, Açıkalan Sanat Kolektifi, Kamusal Sanat Laboratuvarı, ArtHack, Homur Mizah ve Karikatür Grubu, Öğrenci Kolektifleri, Gündoğusu Sanat ve Düşün Topluluğu, Red Fotoğraf, Bağımsız Sanatçılar, Bağımsız Üniversite Öğrencileri), kentsel dönüşüme uğrayan semtlerin isimlerinin yazılı olduğu tişörtler giyerek panel sırasında konuşmacıların bulunduğu alanda yere yattılar. Üzerlerine sponsorların isimlerinin bulunduğu battaniyeler örten göstericilerin sessiz eylemi, daha sonra otel güvenliğinin göstericileri karga tulumba dışarı taşımasıyla sona erdi. Panel sonrasında platform üyesi Mihriban Demircan ve Niyazi Selçuk'u tehdit eden bienal küratörü sanatçıdan kamerasındaki görüntüleri silmesi istedi. Sanatçı itiraz edince taraflar birbirinden şikayetçi oldu. Aşağıda bu eylemin yapılma nedenini açıklayan bildiri vardır.

Son yıllarda İstanbul kenti bir inşaat şantiyesine dönüştü. Özellikle yıllardır göç alan mahallelerde, legal işgallerle soylulaştırma projesi adı altında gerçekleştirilen bu yıkımlar, her mahallede bir isyanı da tetikliyor. Kentler ile çevresinin sermayenin çıkarları doğrultusunda yeniden kurgulanıp birer rant alanı haline getirildiği “kentsel dönüşüm” yağma projesi, yoksulları kent merkezlerinden tasfiye ederek barınma haklarına el koyuyor. 

AKP iktidarının yönetiminde doğal kaynakların yağmalandığı, kent tarihinin ve kültürünün yok edildiği, kentlerin kimliksizleştirilip markalaştırıldığı bu operasyonda sermayeye rant alanları sağlamaktan çok daha ötesinde, toplumsal dönüşümü hedefleyen ideolojik bir saldırı söz konusu. Yoksulların sürülüp yaşam alanlarına kurulan güvenlikli siteler, rezidanslar dönüşümün bir “soylulaştırma” projesi olduğunu gözler önüne seriyor. Diğer taraftan da doğal alanlar, tarihi ve kültürel yapılar gasp edilerek yerlerine AVM’ler, lüks oteller, plazalar dikiliyor. 

Yıkımlar sırasında ortaya çıkacak toz asbest kısa ve uzun vadede ciddi sağlık problemlerine yol açacak. Enkazlardan çıkan hafriyat sahil kesimlerinde denizin doldurulmasında kullanılıp yeni rant alanları açılacak. 

2020 yılında talip olunan olimpiyat hazırlıklarında kent dokusu katledilecek, orman alanları yerleşime açılacak, turist akışı için pek çok mahalle kentsel dönüşüme dahil edilecek. Tabii girilecek ekonomik dar boğaz ise cabası. Daha önce olimpiyatların yapıldığı Barcelona, Pekin, Seul, Atina ve daha birçok kent bu sorunların canlı birer tanığı oldular. 

Çizilen bu çerçevenin ışığında bir Eczacıbaşı kuruluşu olan İKSV tarafından düzenlenen ve Koç Holding’in sponsor olduğu 13. İstanbul Bienali’nin “Kamusal Simya” konseptiyle düzenlenmesi son derece ironiktir. Kentsel dönüşüm yağmasının da yatırımcılarından olan bu iki grubun düzenlediği 13. İstanbul Bienali’nin, kamusal alanları işgal edip iktidar ve sermayenin saldırılarını meşrulaştırmaktan başka bir işlevi olmadığı gün gibi ortada. Bu anlamda kentleri pazarlama taktiğinin parçası olan bienaller gibi sermaye destekli sanat etkinlikleri de sistemin kendi sözünü üretmek adına kullandığı araçlardan biri haline dönüşüyor. 

AKP’nin sermaye odaklı yeni rant alanları açmak ve toplumsal yaşama müdahale etmek amacıyla başlattığı bu operasyon için Çevre ve Şehircilik Bakanı “kentsel dönüşüme karşı çıkanlar vatan hainidir” açıklamasında bulundu. Bizler iktidarın her türlü baskısına, tacizine, hukuksuzluğuna karşı direnerek “vatan hainliği” yapmaya devam ediyoruz

'Karşı İsen, Müdahale Et' ' If You Are Against It, Intervene!'

The Video Recordings of The Artists' Performance at the "Public Capital" Event and Their Removal from the Conference Room by Force.

Yesterday Public Resistance Platform// Kamusal Direniş Platformu (Kent Hareketleri, Açıkalan Art Collective, Kamusal Sanat Laboratuarı, ArtHack, Homur Mizah ve Kültür Grubu, Student Collectives,Gündoğusu Sanat ve Düşün Topluluğu, Red Photography, Independent Artists, Independent University Students) made a performance at, IKSV's 13th Istanbul Biennial's third panel with the name Public capital under the conceptual framework Public Alchemy which took place at the Marmara Hotel Taksim.

The performance was about the artists' laying down on the floor quietly for five minutes in front of the speakers. Each of the protesters were thrown out of the room by force.

Kamusal Sermaye Başlıklı Etkinlikte Sanatçıların Eylemi ve Yaka Paça Dışarı Atılmalarının Video Kaydı

    Dün Taksim Marmara Oteli’nde İKSV’nin 13. İstanbul Bienali dahilinde üçüncüsü düzenlenen Kamusal Simya üst başlıklı Kamusal Sermaye adlı toplantıda Kamusal Direniş Platformu (Kent Hareketleri, Açıkalan Sanat Kolektifi, Kamusal Sanat Laboratuvarı, ArtHack, Homur Mizah ve Karikatür Grubu, Öğrenci Kolektifleri, Gündoğusu Sanat ve Düşün Topluluğu, Red Fotoğraf, Bağımsız Sanatçılar, Bağımsız Üniversite Öğrencileri) bir eylem gerçekleştirdik. 

   Bu eylem sanatçıların beşer dakika arayla etkinlik konuşmacılarının önüne çıkarak sessizce yatmasıydı. Her eylemci çıktığında otel güvenliği tarafından karga tulumba dışarı atıldı.
